Gamers everywhere who have eagerly been awaiting a price cut for the PS3 have a new, and very powerful ally. As reported on CNBC, Dan DeMatteo (CEO of GameStop), notes that he’d like to see a cut in the price of Sony’s PS3, which at $399 is the most expensive game machine out there.
“That price point is clearly an issue in this economy,” says Dan DeMatteo.
Sony has constantly shot down any hope for a price cut on their beloved PS3. However, the company is still widely expected to announce a price cut at or prior to E3 this June. Supposedly now, the big debate is whether the cut will be $50 or $100.
But knocking Sony down for their lack of a price cut on the PS3 wasn’t the only thing Dan had on his mind. The PS2 price cut was also under scrutiny even though Sony’s hit console is still shipping many consoles right out the door. Dan Jumps on Sony saying,
“To be honest, it really wasn’t worth doing,” he says. “If they’d done it earlier, publishers probably would have kept making games for the PS2, but once they’ve stopped, they’ve stopped.”
Dan hopes that the demand for the Wii will slow down, leaving Sony an opportunity to take action and drop their own price. If Sony cuts the price of the PS3, are we going to see the PlayStation 3 as the console war leader? Can Sony really re-claim the throne?
Looks like gamers should keep their wallets closed for the time being, because we just might get that price cut we’ve all been waiting for.
